So… Uranus in the tenth house, in your birth chart (natal) or via astrological event (transit) – what does that mean? This timeless article, applicable to all natal charts, all astrological transits, no matter during which timeframe, and all other contexts, will explain just that. Please note that a fully comprehensive analysis can only take place via full consideration of your birth chart, so get a reading if you’d like to have the full overview.
Â
Uranus is the planet of change, revolution, rebellion, innovation, individualism, and so much more. The tenth house is the realm of public life, career, work, authority figures, and the father. When Uranus moves through this house (temporarily for 7-8 years every 84 years), or stays here for life because you were born like this, unique and interesting effects take place in these areas of life that we’ll talk about.
Â
But before we do, let’s make sure this is the right article for you by checking the dates.
Â
Dates:
If you were born within the timeframes listed below and have the Rising Sign noted, Uranus sits in your 10th house in your birth chart. Note: there are always one or two years in which Uranus is technically in two signs as it’s moving back and forth between the old and new signs. For exact dates, further research is recommended.

Uranus in the 10th House: Work and Career
Alright, so Uranus is in your house of work and career – temporarily (but for 7-8 years, this ain’t going to be short) or for life. What does that mean?
Â
Uranus is the planet of change, meaning that you’re quite literally going to experience changes in the realm of work and career. Now, this can absolutely be something as literal as you deciding to change your lucrative career as City Girl Lawyer to save the Christmas Tree Farm of the dying neighbor of your aunt’s, who lives in the Cute Small Town that has a suspicious ratio of hot single men that happen to be interested in you. This can also be something as huge as your job becoming obsolete due to the change in technology, leading to you having to learn new skills and start all over again. HOWEVER. It doesn’t have to be that dire.
Â
Sometimes, changes in work and career can mean being put into a new division where work is significantly different because of changes in workload, colleagues, bosses, or just the premise of what it is that you do (like… selling healthcare items instead of TVs). It can mean a promotion and taking on new responsibilities, or stepping down/reducing your hours so that you have more time to devote to other things. It can mean choosing self-employment (if this is for you! Look at your natal chart to figure that one out – and it’s dependent on more than just Uranus). Change comes in many forms and with many different results. And sometimes, it can be a change for the best.
Â
The common denominators are two-fold: one is change. The second is change for the purpose of liberation. Essentially, Uranus always tries to set us free from something, either as a short-term or long-term plan. If you’re stuck in a job that you hate or a team that sucks you dry like a collection of vampires with binge-eating issues, then Uranus may very well help you create a more freeing work environment. Uranus also quite literally rules technology and innovation, so those things coming into your work environment may make a difference as well.
Â
Uranus can set us on fire with idealism and a new vision, including a new vision for an ongoing project, business, or other sort of event that’s pre-existing in your life. This is a time in which, yes, you can absolutely step back from what used to give you purpose to set yourself free from responsibility and strain – but it can also be the opposite, a time to double down and fully, radically commit yourself. This may also be a time when you jo-jo between the two extremes. It’s up to you and up to how much you believe in what you’re doing… whether you see the sense in things, regardless of what other people say.

Â
Authority
Let’s talk about authority, something that rebellion-ruling Uranus knows a lot about… but not always in the way we think. Authority quite literally means relationship to people in authority positions, such as bosses, father figures, insert other authorities in your life… which means that Uranus being here/journeying here for sure brings up themes around those people: both in terms of liberation and rebellion, as well as generalized change (for example, your boss might have an existential crisis about whether this is even what they want to do for a living, or – in case of a client of mine – have a bunch of babies, changing the relationship between you both and also the way your job unfolds).
Â
But authority is also inside of us. We are the authority over ourselves, and sometimes, we are authority figures for others (best example: if you raise a child or are a boss yourself!). With Uranus here, we are led to change and adapt the way we step into our authority, to get very clear on what we can and can’t control, and to tailor the ways we wield our own power to what actually works for us (and ideally also the people we’re responsible for). Because styles of leadership differ and certain styles may work better with your unique gifts, weaknesses, and the purpose/conditions of the situation you’re leading people through, while others clash or aren’t doable. This is the time to adjust that.
Â
And this is also the time to step into your own power and to realize where someone’s attempt to rule over you is just that – their attempt that you can opt in or out of, or partially follow. You realize what you can control in your life, and where liberation is needed.

Â
Public Life
The public sphere of life – from your work life, to social media, to standing in front of a crowd and speaking to them, to a job that’s quite literally bringing cameras to you – all of this is signified by the tenth house. Uranus brings a certain amount of unpredictability and revelation, making this a prime time for positive opportunities that come out of nowhere, as well as one-in-a-million type events and unexpected hiccups that need careful management.
Â
What there won’t be is stability – not as much as people may want, at least. Your reputation, part of this house as well, may change drastically, which is why it’s important to base your reputation on truth: not on humility or other people’s laurels, as both could lead your reputation to shift drastically.
Â
Legacy
With Uranus in the house of legacy, it’s time to look at what you’re about to leave behind for other people one day, and to ask yourself if this is truly what you wish to offer – not what you’re supposed to offer, but what you uniquely have to give and want to give. This is also a time in which legacy decisions (such as who’ll take your place one day at work) may come up and change drastically – or that your commitment to the cause becomes more radical as well.
Â
Father (Figure)
With the tenth house traditionally seen as the house of the father (though some astrologers claim it’s the mother), the person that’s a father to you (biological, adopted, or father figure in other ways) may move through big changes during this timeframe. A prominent father in your life, or you as a father, may live this out, too.
