Uranus in the 12th House: Cleaning Up Your Life
Uranus is the planet of change and liberation. The twelve house is the part of the chart that signifies all that needs to end and/or everything that’s clogging up your life and keeping you from success – including self-sabotage. This makes the 7-8 years of this astrological event, slash lifetime of having Uranus in this part of your chart, a very fruitful time for getting rid of what keeps you stuck. Essentially, everything that ties you up and keeps you from getting ahead can be removed during this time as the liberating qualities of Uranus come to the rescue. Even situations that seem like you couldn’t possibly ever set yourself free can be resolved… sometimes with, sometimes without your conscious involvement.
Another thing that Uranus in this placement brings is a release of attachment. Alexandra, I’m attached to my arm, so if I lose attachments, am I going to lose my arm now? – Not that type of attachment. Your emotional attachment to things you don’t need and mental over-prioritization of things that don’t actually matter are going to loosen their holds on you, slash you’re going to realize that/why they never were that important in the first place. It gets more obvious what is and isn’t something you can’t live without.
With Uranus here, it’s very helpful – and necessary – to periodically lift up the rugs in your life and open up the closets to check on your skeletons. This isn’t a really good time to keep things hidden, especially not via suppression, as what’s suppressed comes to light right now. The good news is that a total release of the past and its hold on you is possible at this time/for your lifetime, and you can create a new life that’s radically different from what you’re used to.
By the way, having Uranus in the 12th house here – for a time or for life – is a very, very helpful thing for releasing addictions and other very painful conditions that are hard to get away from. Of course, this only applies if you have an addiction or comparable theme: a transit starting here won’t suddenly give you an addiction to peanuts and then force you to go cold-turkey 4 years in. Though who knows… you might be the exception – just kidding! (Though, honestly, if you start up with an addiction within the Uranus 12th house timeframe, which you shouldn’t, the transit will still aid you. But it’s not a healthy thing to risk, so please don’t.)

Giving Up
One, sometimes painful but always positive part of this transit/birth placement (in the long run!) is that we’re led to give something up. This can literally be downsizing your house and letting go of a lot of household items you spent your life with, this can be letting go of your tendency to over-achieve or to sacrifice yourself when sacrifice isn’t even necessary, or this can also be something that you’ve always meant to lose – such as extra pounds around your waistline. The possibilities are many, and it’s up to you.
Fact is, giving up on something is a necessary thing to gather our strength, energy, time, and other resources so we can pour them into something better, something that will bring us a new beginning and make a difference. This is the time to re-prioritize if you have to, and to be patient with your own process.

The Hidden Life
The 12th house is the part of your chart signifying invisibility and the hidden life. When Uranus, planet of change, rebellion, and liberation, comes into this part of your chart/sits here in your birth chart, it’s very important to prioritize your hidden and private life, a.k.a. the times in which you’re away from the world and alone with yourself. The tendency of the 12th house is to create the time for you if you don’t make the time for it – but that’s a different story. Whether it’s alone time for your introverted heart, meditation, prayer, or retreats in some way, making space to truly step away from the hustle and bustle not only feels massively liberating at this time, it also leads to revelations coming in that aid you in creating true change and sustainable transformation in your life that you need.
The hidden life being a theme with Uranus here can also mean that something about your private/hidden sphere becomes radically different than what it used to be. This sounds vague because it’s up to the individual what this plays out, but examples are: stepping out of the limelight – for a period or for good – to truly reconnect with who you are, creating a radical separation between public and private life that you defend so you can be out in the world but also be nourished, bringing your hidden life to people in ways that change them.
Some people who walk through these transits/have this in their birth placement are also drawn to jobs or activities that involve those hidden from society: like in hospitals, retirement homes, retreats, or even prisons. Obviously, this is not for everyone. Whatever is hidden from the world becomes more interesting, and has a profound power to create change inside of you and – through you – for others.

Spirituality and Intuition
The 12th house is the place signifying intuition and spirituality, including the instinctual awareness of that which can not be cognitively known and understood. With Uranus, planet of revelation, extremes, liberation, and also intuition in this part of your chart (for a time/for good), this is probably a time in which you’re more attuned and your instincts are better than before. Don’t, therefore, ignore them.
It’s also a time during which themes around spirituality, including classic religions and spiritual communities, are up for a change. You change – they change – you start to realize more of what’s going on beneath the surface that changes your view on things – the outside world changes in such a way that this impacts your spiritual/religious views in ways you didn’t expect.
With Uranus here, some people (with other indicators present in their charts) are more likely to go into a spiritual or religious extreme (or an atheist/agnostic extreme), so be a bit mindful of what you’re doing with what you believe. Extremes tend to cause us to betray the core of our own values, though not always. Speaking of that…

Altruism and Self-Sacrifice
This leads us to the last theme of Uranus in this placement. The twelfth house is the place where we let go of our own ego and step into our capacity to choose others before ourselves: whether that’s through a life purpose intended to better other people’s lives, volunteering work, or being particularly involved with your loved ones who are struggling, or something completely different than that. Uranus here both gives extreme commitment and passion, and gives you a new vision (be sure not to run amok with this!), but it sets you free from overly sacrificing yourself in ways that harm you. Often, people with this placement go from one extreme (overly sacrificing themselves) to another (complete liberation) and back again, so keep an eye on yourself here. Also, not all visions of how to help people are actually sustainable for the long-term, so use your head, not just your idealism, to make decisions that impact yourself and others.
