With Uranus changing signs soon, this is the perfect time for a deep dive into Uranus in the 8th house via birth chart (natal chart) or astrological event (transit). This is a timeless article applicable to all natal charts and astrological events, regardless of when you’re reading it. That being said, only a full, comprehensive astrology reading brings a complete picture of how this impacts you.

Uranus is the planet of freedom, individuality, rebellion, and change, and the eighth house is about truth, power, and life-changing events… do the two intersect, and what do you need to know? This article walks you through just that.

Uranus in the 8th House: Transformation, Unexpectedly

Welcome to Uranus, planet of change in the perhaps most life-changing house in the astrological symbolism. This event – be it for life, or for a time period of 7-8 years every 84 years in a transit – is one that brings unexpected and big transformational events, many of which are for your absolute highest good and that set you free from strife and connect you to your own power. This event makes you unfathomably strong and puts you in touch with the power you truly have. It also helps you remove yourself from toxic bonds in your life – be that with other people, places, memories, financial ties, living situations, jobs, or anything else that comes here.

Still, despite the many, many positives that this event brings… It’s not going to be easy 24/7. The eighth house is often a place in which we’re meeting our own limits, mortality, and the truth of the human condition. What we make of this can be something massively empowering, life-changing, and positive: I’ve seen people use this sort of event to grasp a passion for life and a wise perspective that shaped the rest of their days and made them better, stronger, more resilient, and more alive than they used to be, never mind showed them the true priorities they should have in life. But it’s ultimately up to you whether life makes you better or bitter.

Full disclosure: there are some bad events that could take place that have that effect on you. Again, it’s up to you to make something good out of them, because Uranus gives you the power to change your experience (after a time) to something better. But during this timeframe, something relatively innocent and harmless can have life-changing effects on you, such as a movie you watch or a relative’s life story.

Now, before you get scared because I used the word “mortality” – I’m not saying you’ll die (I mean… if you start chugging bleach like it’s beer at a frat party, sure, but then, astrology doesn’t protect against that level of dumb) – but that you’ll start to realize that your life will, in fact, one day end… which strangely, some people don’t notice for some times in their lives. With this placement in your birth chart, you may have periods of being more or less aware of these things. With this as a transit, now is the 7-8-year-long timeframe to notice. Again: this can be very purpose-giving and aliveness-boosting; it doesn’t have to be bad. It also doesn’t have to be anything personal to you.

Noticing what this means to have only a temporary time on earth can bring you clarity about what it is you’re really here for and make the most of what’s been given to you. It can help you gain the perspective necessary to move on and the power you need to remove yourself from what hurt you previously.

In one way or another: it brings you transformation, from the inside as well as the outside.

Intimacy and Sexuality

Another major topic of Uranus in this house is that of intimacy and sexuality. One of the cookbook interpretations of this event to be found in pretty much any astrology book is someone realizing that they were actually gay, or otherwise choosing a journey of sexual exploration. Of course, this is not the only way this astrological event plays out, since everybody at the age of 84 years has had Uranus in the 8th house for 7-8 years of their lives, and I doubt that everyone was gay during that time period (and that’s not counting people who were born with this placement!). That being said, if you’re in the LGBTQ+-closet, you might actually exit it during this timeframe – or have the urge to experiment more when it comes to bedroom activities and partners than the average person, should this be your birth placement. You do you!

Uranus in this part of the chart also brings surprises. And now, we’re going to take that right to the topic of intimacy and put in a reminder of people taking care of their intimate health in common-sense ways, since Uranus also boosts recklessness. Also, you might want to decide how private you’d like to keep certain things, since Uranus might lead to someone perhaps not staying quite as private as they intended, if you aren’t careful… especially if tech gets involved.

One more topic around this subject is that of revelation of truth, as Uranus brings the revelation, and this is the house of truth: you might get to know someone whom you knew already in very new ways… and you should be careful of trusting people too quickly without vetting, while this planet lives/moves through your eighth house. People have the power to change you, especially during times/lifetimes like this, and not everybody should have that type of power over you.

That being said, this is also a time in which bedroom activities and other forms of intimacy can be especially fun, life-giving, and overall blessings to your life. This isn’t a bad transit or birth placement by any means!

Truth, Lies, and Secrets

If there is any part of your life that’s shaded in secrecy, be it yours or someone else’s, that affects you (perhaps unknowingly), this event/birth placement lifts the veil and brings it to light. Whether it’s the intimate light of a bedroom nightlamp or the harsh light of the world stage depends on many factors, but fact is that the rug is lifted and secrets are aired out on some level. Lies have especially short feet.

But truth sets you free – quite literally, with Uranus, planet of freedom, here. The long-term effect will always be positive.

As Uranus is also a planet of intuition, specifically people who have strong intuition and/or those with this birth placement ferret out secrets and lies more quickly, or have a sense that something’s off when it actually is. You don’t need to become the super-sleuth if that’s inappropriate, but don’t close your eyes to instinct.

Finances

Welcome to another major part of Uranus in this house – finances! Uranus brings revelations, and this is the house of aliments, debts, taxes, inheritances, and other parts of the financial world that tend to bring out the true colors of people, especially the people you’re already entangled with. This is a great transit or birth placement for getting out of debt and setting up financial roadways that lead to future independence and passive income streams. It’s also a time in which money shows you who the people you love really are.

This is a time to keep an eye on financial things, as Uranus brings rapid change – for the better, for the worse, and for both.

The Purpose of this Event: Empowerment

This leads us to the ultimate purpose behind Uranus in the eighth house: putting you in touch with your own power. This event removes whatever keeps you stuck or in the dark or threatens to make you forget your own power in any given situation. It boosts your resiliency and puts you back in touch with your own capacity to create the life you wish to lead, one that makes you happy and feels purposeful.

Removing Entanglements

This is the house in which relationships become entangled – by dynamics regarding power, finances, and/or more. Sometimes, these entanglements are powerful, beautiful networks of connection that help you be more free because someone else has your back. In that case, Uranus here will do good for you!

However, entanglements can be dynamics that are inherently harmful to one or more people. Here, Uranus systematically creates the change (with or without you) to set you free. This is why it’s a great event when you’re stuck somewhere you previously couldn’t leave – this event helps you get out and puts your own power back in your hands.

Conclusion:

This event/birth placement is not for the faint of heart by any means, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be the best time of your life if you make it so. For further information on how to do that (something that very definitely depends on your birth chart and unique circumstances, which is why we can’t go into detail here), consider booking a reading.
