What is Pallas?

Pallas is an astrological asteroid that doesn’t show up in every astrologer’s chart, mainly because many astrologers find working with asteroids a little too complicated for their taste. However, asteroids add a specificity and a nuance to a chart reading that is impossible to beat, and extremely helpful on a practical level (which is why I always use asteroids in my practice). Pallas is the, and has been the, key to solving many a problem – because Pallas is about the intelligence that helps us to problem-solve in the first place.

Pallas signifies the points in our lives where we can merge many different types of intelligence and many different types of gifts into one, combining logic and intellect with wisdom, intuition, creativity, and instinct, to come up with unique solutions that span across multiple different fields of skill, that are inventive and/or holistic.

This astrological asteroid has many more fields of influence that make it fascinating and extremely helpful to work with, such as a literal association with specific career paths, but it also shows us where the uniqueness we carry (including uniqueness that makes it hard to fit in) can become a tool for our use and something that helps us succeed. While Pallas still requires us to put in work and hard effort, this astrological symbol shows us where in life we can succeed, and how. It can also be literally associated with the LGBTQ+ community and neurodivergence. If you’re especially interested in neurodivergence and surrounding topics, I have an article on the subject here and offer readings on both the asteroids in general and neurodivergence specifically.

Pallas and Strategy

In this article, we focus on strategy. Where Pallas lies in our chart, we are more strategic – and Pallas shows how strategy works for us and which gifts have more strategic value than others. This is particularly helpful when it comes to situations in which we desperately want to succeed at something or solve a problem that has been bogging us down, or tackle an obstacle in a long-term project. What’s especially cool about Pallas is that it can help us use things that held us back (especially differences, as is the case with neurodivergence) and flip them so they become blessings in disguise, and even talents or gifts for the future.

For example, let’s say you grew up in foster care. There’s nothing remotely positive about that, other than that growing up homeless under a bridge would be even worse. Let’s also say that Pallas is astrologically connected to that topic (which can take place through multiple astrological combinations). With Pallas here, you can potentially learn to use some of the skills foster care taught you, for better or for worse, and turn them into strategies that serve you in other aspects of your life, adapting them so they can bring you future success… for example, learning to de-escalate conflict, which you then use to de-escalate conflicts with coworkers or even customers, building a career around that skill. That doesn’t mean you owe your success to foster care specifically, or that it was “a good thing foster care happened to you,” though depending on your experiences in foster care and before that, that could be the case as well. It just means that you can strategically use something bad (at the very least, you being in a position to need foster care is bad) to create something better in a really, really impactful way.

Beyond this, Pallas can also signify where we have to both use strategy to get further, but also not overuse strategy too much: Pallas can make us lucky, which means that we’re more likely to succeed with any endeavor we’re willing to truly prioritize and make sacrifices for. Sounds great – if it’s the right endeavor. But if you spend years plotting and laboring to finally make it to the top of the mountain of your choice, only to arrive at the peak and realize you climbed the wrong freaking mountain, you immediately see Pallas’s pitfall: the temptation of success can drone out the little voice of our soul that points us to where success actually matters, versus where it’s not meant for us in the first place. Where Pallas lies, we can forget why we wanted the success in the first place and sacrifice our Reason Why for the success that was only a means to an end… and quite without noticing we’re doing it.

Aries

With Pallas here, you’re very well able to become strategic when you’re inspired, as well as when you forge your own path, engage in conflict, or cut through distraction to fight for something that matters. This placement may make you a bit more ambitious and able to be direct about what it is you want, both things that have strategic value. A pitfall of this combination is your competitiveness leading you on a path meant for someone else, or doing too much to succeed in the first place.

With this combination, you need your physical needs taken care of first, as a pitfall with this combination is a stronger impact of your body on your productivity.
