Juno: Co-Leadership and the Queen Archetype
Astrological asteroid Juno signifies many different things, most importantly themes around relationships, what you commit to (within and outside of relationships), and marriage especially.
However, there is an aspect to Juno’s archetype that is particularly helpful when it comes to themes around leadership: and that is the Queen Archetype.

What is Juno?
Juno is a minor planetary body, also known as an astrological asteroid, that orbits us from the Main Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter, together with the other goddess asteroids (Pallas, Vesta, and Ceres).
In astrology, Juno specifically signifies committed partnerships, such as marriage, alliances, and business partnerships, as well as what we commit to and how, legal endeavors, and the subject of this article, the Queen Archetype.
However, Juno’s effect on marriage and romantic partnership is strong, so I have multiple articles about that: check this out to start.
Juno and the Queen Archetype
So, what is the Queen Archetype? The sarcastic part of me wants to make a quip that it’s the statistical likelihood of getting “Slay Queen” in the comment section of an Instagram post where you look fireeee. No, obviously, that’s not what this stands for.
In mythology and fairy tales, which is often an articulation of archetypes living in our collective psyches, the queen is a ruler – and a powerful one at that – but one who rules in a specific way under specific circumstances, something we see reflected in Juno’s signature in astrology. This isn’t about the question of whether women can rule, which has been answered for some time, I believe. This isn’t about gender at all. It’s about the approach to ruling that has been represented by the archetypal queens.
So, knowing that this isn’t about gender, what is the type of ruling this archetype, and therefore Juno, signifies?
Juno signifies a kind of rulership that is relational more than it is directional, though every leadership position gives direction as well (it’s just a matter of how it’s presented and what the priority is). In ancient myths and archetypal stories, the queen tended to the heart of the people and often became a mediator between the symbolic personifications of strict justice and the concerns of the individual or groups of individuals. She often interceded to bring mercy, charity, and care where it was needed.
As such, the archetypical queen is accessible to all her subjects, but property to none. Dignified and respected, she leads from the heart and holds down the fort when the King is busy elsewhere or indisposed. The final defense, last rallying cry, motivator of the masses, and giver of grace, the queen is an indispensable part of every archetypal story: just look at the fairy tales; the story is never over until the king has his queen, and it’s not just about dynastic legacy (though that’s a factor): the story could end with, “and the king was fruitful and multiplied, hopefully with the woman he married for moral and legal legitimacy.” No, many stories end with some version of, “and the King loved his Queen, and the nation rejoiced.” – Case in point: the nation’s “rejoicing” is over the love, which is neither required for creating a legacy (“close your eyes and think of England” was a thing for a reason) nor something that significantly improves a nation’s welfare.
So, Juno in astrology speaks to that kind of leadership. It also speaks to the kind of leadership and aid given to others that comes from you being in an elevated position from others, be it in status, access to monetary resources, connections, power, talents, or time. You use what you have that others don’t have, and from a top-down approach, use that to make a difference. Where Juno lies, this is what you do, on a smaller or larger scale… and where Juno lies, we see how strong your desire to be this way really is.

Co-Leadership
Juno doesn’t just signify the queen archetype and if/how we live it out in our own lives, but it also often speaks to a leadership that requires another person on an equal or elevated level to you. The king’s story is never told until the queen arrives, but the archetypical queen (Juno) becomes queen because of the king’s presence to begin with (historically, that is, of course, a bit of a different story, but this is about archetypes). The queen gets her power from/because of her relationship, even in the archetypal stories in which the queen inherits the throne (because of the throne only accessible through marriage and such): again, this could lead us down a major rabbit hole, but we’re not going to talk about that; we’re talking about Juno’s symbolism in astrology as it signifies this queen archetype, and with it the more modern turn of phrase of co-leadership.
In astrology, Juno signifies our desire or lack thereof to share leadership and power with others. Juno’s placement can signify an ease with being a co-leader with others, or the necessity of having a business partner – or that this is really not for you. Astrology also has symbols for ruling alone, which can be strong in anyone, regardless of gender, but if your Juno is stronger than those other symbols, you tend to want a partner in crime – ah, crown. Where Juno sits, you also want to share, even if you’re happier ruling alone elsewhere. And not only that, but Juno also signifies character traits of the kind of person you’d share power with and what you need to make that relationship work, so Juno is truly the bee’s knees when it comes to this subject.
Your Subjects
Lastly, Juno in astrology also signifies your proverbial subjects, or target audience. This is the group of people you help, through which measure you help them, and why. This is its own rabbit hole and highly helpful for people who wish to build a business, etc., but out of scope for this article. But, long story short, it’s a thing. If you want to go deeper, I offer asteroid readings.
