So, Uranus – the planet of change – is moving through your fourth house. What does that mean? And how can you navigate this in the best and most easeful way possible? Regardless of time (or where Uranus is in the sky when this happens for you), this article provides the answers.
Now, if you’re new to astrology and don’t know jack about what the fourth house is or what Uranus does (other than be the butt of the joke in the English language), please don’t worry: there’s an explanation coming up for you in just a little bit. If you also want to find out if this is relevant for you right now, then I have a date section for you where you can find out!
So, let’s jump in.

Transits, Uranus, and the 4th House explained
What are Transits?
In summary, transits are astrological events that are happening in real time.
Astrology differentiates between 2 major categories: permanent placements and temporary events. Permanent placements, like your Sun sign or anything else in your birth chart, don’t change. These are part of your unique blueprint through life, though you can choose how you wish to live out your placement – and thereby still create change, if you so choose.
Temporary events, like transits, have a set start and a set end time. For example, on July 7th, 2025, Uranus enters Gemini. From then until November 8th, 2025 (and then from 2026 onward to 2033), Uranus stays in that sign and does a bunch of interesting things that I wrote about here. Once it leaves the sign in 2033, all these themes end as Uranus goes on a new journey and creates upheaval elsewhere. This is called a transit.
Transits generally affect everyone during the time they take place. (So, a transit from 1995-2003 affects everyone alive then). But depending on your unique blueprint, you’re going to experience it slightly differently from others.
This is where transits through the houses come in.
Every transit (read astrological event) carries generalized themes – for example, Uranus in Gemini: for all of us, change (Uranus) is coming into our lives through our minds, new information, etc. (Gemini), and more than that as well – and individualized themes according to your unique astrological blueprint. An astrologer can tell you very specifically about those individualized events for you as we consider all the factors into account that come into play.
But a great start is to look at which house a transit takes place in.
Note: While I’m using Uranus in Gemini as an example here, this article applies to Uranus anywhere, anytime – so it’s applicable for all events that bring Uranus into your fourth house, not just from 2025-2033. But if you want to read a specialized summary of Uranus in Gemini exclusively, you can click here.
Houses
Houses are portions of the sky (and your birth chart) that correspond with different areas of life. So, you have a house signifying finances, another about siblings, one about love, and so on. An event happening in a house means the themes of said house are activated for you. The fourth house is all about family, roots, foundations, our private lives, and our home – and it’s one of the most important houses in astrology. Houses are also dependent on your Rising Sign.
So, who – or what – is Uranus?
Uranus
Uranus itself is, in a nutshell, the planet of change, upheaval, and revolution. It allows us to choose our own path, to individuate, and to walk to the beat of our own drums. It also liberates us from what holds us hostage and brings innovation through life in general. It spends about 7 ½ to 8 years in each sign and needs 84 years to come full circle.
Which leads us to a pretty relevant question:

Dates: When Does Uranus Enter Your 4th House?
Uranus needs 84 years to move through every single house of your birth chart. Therefore, people with a normal lifespan have the pleasure of experiencing Uranus in their fourth house eventually. In this section, we’ll look at the dates for the next and last time from ca. 2000 to ca. 2100 for each Rising Sign.
If you'd like to skip this section, click here. If you want to continue... here are three notes of varying importance before we start.
Important Note: This section is for Rising Signs only. If you don’t know your Rising Sign, you may substitute it with your Sun Sign. (Do NOT use your Moon or Uranus signs.)
Semi-Important Note: You’ll see date overlaps for the timeframes below. This is because Uranus moves back and forth in the sky, entering a sign, then moving back into its previous sign to wrap things up, before re-entering and fully committing to the new sign. This phenomenon is due to planetary retrogrades.
Unimportant Note (Astro-Geeks only): The dates have been generated for Whole Sign House System, but the rest of this article applies to Uranus in the fourth house in all house systems – so, if you want to use a different one, go for it (just use different dates)!
Okay, now that we've got the logistics out of the way, let’s focus on the important stuff.
We’ll start with what’s most relevant:

Shaking Foundations: Uranus in Your Fourth House.
So, the planet of change is in your house of home, family, foundations, roots, and your private life. Well, isn’t that a sight for sore eyes? Now that we got the logistics out of the way, we can fully focus on what you can expect, what you can actively work with, and what you might wish to be cautious about. Because the cool thing about astrology is that you have agency.
Let’s start at home!

Home
The fourth house is quite literally about our homes. On the micro-level, this looks like the room you live in (if you have a room rented somewhere), the apartment the room belongs to, and/or the building it sits in. (Of course, if you own a house, that applies as well – and if you live in a RV, then that is your home, too). On a macro level, the fourth house is the broader space that we consider our home. For instance, the country you live in is also your fourth house.
But home isn’t just a place we’re connected to due to bureaucratic records or owner’s certificates. Any place you feel at home in can be the fourth house in some way… however, what is emphasized here is the actual physical space you live in.
Uranus brings change to everything that it touches. So, if it’s moving through this house, all these structures – your home on the micro-level, buildings on a macro-level, and the country you live in – are subject to change.
But things go further: Uranus holds a very unstable energy. This means that these structures are likely not just changing once over the 7 ½-8 years of the astrological event, but over and over again in unpredictable (as Uranus is infamously hard to predict) or, at least, scatter-shot bursts of change.
Okay, so you may ask yourself… what change can you expect?
To give you some concrete examples, Uranus in the fourth house for a client of mine brought moving out of her previous home into a rental, and then eventually buying a house in a different city she always wanted to live in.
Another client example was someone deciding to work from home during this timeframe, and several roommates entering/leaving during that timeframe.
And in a third client’s case, the 8 years of Uranus in her fourth house brought constant renovations of properties she was responsible for, as everything that wasn’t working well was gradually fixed, issues were removed before they could create problems, and other long-standing desires for improvement could finally be realized.
Changes like this are very common for people who have Uranus moving through their fourth house. Other changes can be, of course, of a more political nature, as the fourth house also impacts the country you live in – so you might be more affected by political events with domestic impact.
Life Lessons: The Why behind the change
So, you might also ask yourself… change to what end?
Uranus can (but doesn’t necessarily) bring change for a higher purpose, which is our liberation, our freedom, and our individual expression. Uranus doesn’t want us to fit ourselves into a specific box so we can fit in with social norms, and it doesn’t reward stagnancy in our lives, or adherence to boundaries that are all restriction, no purpose. If you have a living situation that is like that, Uranus is guaranteed to bring change to it – either by events coming from the outside, or self-initiated liberation (so, you making certain choices inspired by the energy, but still under your personal control).
But Uranus also just creates change for change’s sake, without a higher purpose as primary driving factor: And this is where things get a little dicey (and we as human beings have to exercise caution) as Uranus can work by making us really fed up with our own boredom. And in those cases, it can make us both reckless and impulsive.
The good news is that impulsivity allows us to actually create a change that has been necessary for a long time. The bad news is, it can make us jump before we look – and overall, not plan as thoroughly as we need to to make the change good for all parties involved.
So, the first lessons for Uranus in your fourth house: Manage your own impulsivity because restrictions of any kind can feel so unbearable that your need to get out of them might override your common sense (at least temporarily).
The second lesson, specifically for when Uranus is in a fast-moving sign (such as Aries, Gemini, etc.): make sure you’re not “having a phase,” especially if you intend to spend lots of money. Uranus can make us change our minds very, very quickly. This means that you might feel a “phase” of (e.g.) moving to Hawaii very intensely, only for it to fade within 3 months. Sucks if you’re already in the process of moving half across the world! (Though, I mean… There are worse places to be stuck in than Hawaii, I imagine.) Make sure you do your due research and don’t just act on a whim – and this includes giving yourself time to change your mind.
The third lesson: change is inevitable. How and what you change is up to you. Whether change enters your life is not. Uranus shows us what’s not working by a) amplifying our own desire for change until we can’t ignore the status quo any longer, or b) bringing upheaval to our lives. The latter happens especially when we’ve been ignoring the former for too long. So, if you notice that something just isn’t working very well… initiate changes that you choose. Or the change comes and chooses you… And Uranus is very explosive when it makes us pay attention.

Culture and Traditions
Another aspect of home other than the physical space we take up and claim for ourselves, is the cultures and traditions we’re immersed in – by our heritage, our own choices, and/or the environment we happen to be in.
Uranus in the fourth house affects these topics for you and guides you to rethink and question traditions you do have, traditions other people have, and traditions you might want to have in the future. The purpose is also to set you free and make you more liberated – which may look like chucking out traditions and cultural rules in favor of whatever floats your boat.
However, the very interesting secondary effect can also be the opposite: introducing more rules and living by cultural rules more strictly than before. Think of it this way: humanity has always been individualistic and freedom-loving, and yet every culture everywhere had/has certain rules. Part of those rules are plain and simply survival-related. Part of those rules are (supposedly or actually) justice-related. And some rules are applied common sense. So, essentially, if you live by those rules, you are happier, healthier, have better relationships, and thrive as an individual in multiple other ways. They are rules because they were distilled from the wisdom experience brings, and that is then passed down throughout the generations.
Uranus is the most individualistic of all the planets: it wants us to become true individuals, and it attempts to guide us to what is best for us as individuals. So, if there are cultural traditions that work really well for you, Uranus actually helps you to fully embrace them, as well. Even if they appear restrictive to others: the right set of structures can make you feel freer than “total liberation,” as it frees up your mind from unnecessary weighing of options and allows you to express who you truly are. They are the foundation for your own happiness. (Of course, this does not apply to the wrong structures.)
Uranus also brings us the temporary curiosity of an explorer. During the 7 ½-8 years of this event, you may try on several ideas about what you do want and how you want to live – and quite radically, in some ways. The changes you make teach you new things about yourself and life in general, and they help you find out what life needs to be like to be tailored to you.
Good things to keep in mind:
To navigate this event the most graciously, here are some principles to guide you.
One: don’t just rebel against, rebel for.
Did you just run into a cultural norm around you that you want to change? Go for it! But make sure what you want to create, not just destroy. Uranus can be very (self-)destructive and, quite frankly, pointless if you don’t have a clear goal you work towards. It’s a good first step to know what you don’t want, but removal of something leads to a vacuum that is inevitably filled… potentially, by something worse than what you had before. So, figure out what you do want first.
Two: understand the rules you wish to break.
Rules are there for a reason – it might not be a good one, or one that’s applicable in the modern world, but it’s a reason all the same. And sometimes, the reason is actually a very good one that we don’t even know (sometimes, traditions are solutions that worked so well we forgot the original problem they were created for). Make sure you know why the rules were in place before you break them, as this allows you to avoid unnecessary trouble – or to adjust the path you’re going toward when creating change (so you don’t break more than you intended).
Three: what might not work for you might work for someone else.
Uranus is very specific to individuals. Or, another way of saying this: what sets you free might be someone else’s worst nightmare, and vice versa. Don’t force your solutions onto people who’d be unhappy living them (unless, of course, we’re talking about themes that include/cause third-party harm.)
Okay, so much for home: let’s move on to another pillar of Uranus in the fourth house… family!

Family
Every single person I know who’s had Uranus in their fourth house has already experienced changes in their family system during this time.
Examples are:
a sibling getting married,
pregnancies
children being born,
adoption taking place
family members passing away,
significant changes in family dynamics,
breaking generational cycles,
falling outs/breaking off contact
moving out/in with family members,
a new and better understanding of family members,
reconciliation between family members after years of no contact,
the person in question getting married and starting a family of their own, etc.
healing with family members (including in their absence)
… And just as with our example with houses, the people who experience Uranus in the fourth house have continual changes like this (though not all changes on the list per person) over the course of ca. 8 years. Those changes don’t have to be bad: but they are powerful.
A client of mine saw two people in her family reconcile after 30 years of strife and rebuild their once-beautiful and nourishing relationship. Other people she was related to resumed contact with each other after more than a decade of radio silence. This is both the same client.
So, some of these changes may not directly involve you, but take place in your family system at large.
Other changes include you.
For example, I have several clients who left abusive partners during these timeframes and made parenting decisions to homeschool and later reworked the homeschooling piece to adjust to new realities and create more freedom for themselves and their respective children. (Talk about parallel lives.)
These are also times of revelation about family members, family stories, ancestry, and more.
Things to keep in mind:
If there is any time in which a family member you thought would never change does, it’s now.
Uranus in the fourth house makes people in your family change in lasting ways – sometimes gradually, sometimes in ways you’ve never expected. Sometimes, people change because of you; at other times, because they’re moving through their own process. Expect the unexpected.
YOU can change, and so can your family system.
Uranus in this area of your chart might make you temporarily rock the boat in your family system. Do what’s necessary and best for you long-term… but also, please be kind where you can. Change is not easy for some people, and your family loves you, too.
Stay flexible.
Uranus in the fourth house passes more easily if you’re mentally prepared to (re)adjust. Stay flexible where you can.
Liberation is possible.
For people who are in toxic, abusive, or otherwise unbearable home and family situations, Uranus in this house is a Godsend. Uranus is the great liberator that helps us break out of situations we thought we couldn’t get out of, ever. The way it does – by the abuser changing for good, by the removal of someone from your life, by you leaving – depends on the unique situation.
Fun fact: the fourth house signifies parents in general, but especially the mother, mother figures, and the maternal line of your family. This area of your family system may be especially affected by change during this time. Also, (and regardless of gender) our role as a parent and/or your relationship to yourself as a (potential) parent may also change during this time.

Fertility
You might have noticed that children and fertility were in the lists above under changes in family. The reason for this is that Uranus in the fourth (and fifth) houses brings unexpected and surprising events (and often change) to fertility. Now, this obviously does not apply to everyone – if you’re a 95-year-old woman, I would be surprised if you suddenly got pregnant. But please note that surprise pregnancies and events like precautions failing are more likely during such an event than usual.
But “fertility” doesn’t just include surprise pregnancies.
Our bodies have the equipment for procreation (generally speaking), whether we are in a phase of life where it’s “on,” or not – and whether we want to procreate in our lifetimes/in this moment or not. Uranus here brings change and/or freedom-motivated decision-making to these areas of life. These can include, but aren’t limited to:
choice around having children right now/ever
health-related changes that have an effect on your fertility – by intent, or side-effect (this can go both ways)healing with past events that may have negatively impacted fertility (and related topics)
creating the life you want to have (regarding fertility and children)
choices around contraceptives, permanent body changes, and related events
In my personal practice, I’ve seen many clients remove contraceptives during Uranus in their fourth house as they felt freer and more like themselves without them. I’ve also seen choices play out around potentially/actually having children or more babies, and some people spend the entire 8 years working towards creating a life they could introduce children into.
Note: in cases when someone is unable to have biological children (f.e. due to a hysterectomy or incurable infertility issues), Uranus here can help you find inner peace and acceptance with that. For those who want to have children despite that, it’s generally seen as a positive event for adoption and other alternative ways of starting/having a family.

Other Themes
Roots and Nourishment
The fourth house is quite literally where and how we nourish ourselves. This includes themes like what gives us a sense of safety, what we eat, and how we emotionally fill our proverbial batteries again. These things may change, or be subject to a process of liberation, during Uranus in the fourth house.
Tips for Uranus in the fourth house here: #1: Feed yourself! Make sure you eat enough consistently (as keeping consistency might be hard for some times during this event).
#2: Listen to your own body. What you need is ever-evolving. Listen to your body and adjust as needed.
Privacy (or not!)
As the fourth house is about privacy, Uranus here can bring upheaval into your relationship with your private life and what you wish to share/not share with the world at large. You may change your mind quite often during this timeframe, as you likely move through a process here.
Tips:
#1: Keep appropriate boundaries for your private information with the world at large (including social media & related public endeavors).
#2: Consider before sharing what your capacity is to deal with the potential consequences from sharing... and consider you audience's capacity as well.
#3: Have a backup plan for returning to a more private life if you're more in the public eye (or visible via social media etc.). You might not ever need it, you might only use it to catch a week or so of a break (everyone deserves a vacation)... but if push comes to shove, it's good to have.
