A Full Moon Eclipse in Pisces is upon us – and for this occasion, I’ve decided to do a bit of a different thing – at least, for me: for the first time in my life, I’m writing an article that includes journal prompts. Rather than this being a prediction-based guide only, which is fun, this one is partially about predictions (so you'll still get the good stuff!), and partially an aide to work with, flow with, and process the energies that are happening roughly two weeks on either side of this eclipse. Again, don’t worry! I’m still including some in-the-sign predictions. And the general energies will be explained in this article as well.
To be honest, I’m writing this well in advance (on July 13th, 2024, over a year before this eclipse hits us), so I’m not quite sure if this is going to be a format y’all already know from me, or whether this is the first time this hits your screen. But regardless, this is my first time writing journal prompts. Please be gentle, but let me know if you like this or not! ;).
Now, let’s get into it: what, exactly, is an eclipse? (If you want to skip this part, click here.)
Breaking down the Astro-jargon:
What’s an eclipse?
Eclipses are what happens when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align in such a way in the sky that either the Sun’s or Moon’s light is significantly dimmed (because another heavenly body blocks it).
They happen 2-3 times a year and come in pairs of triplets. The last eclipse we’ve had was in March of this year. The next, its sibling, happens on September 21st.
What’s a Lunar Eclipse or Blood Moon?
In summary, an eclipse happening on a Full Moon is called a Lunar Eclipse. This means that the Sun and Moon align with Earth in such a way that our planet’s shadow falls on the supposed-to-be-visible full moon… which creates a discoloration of the full moon that can make it look like it was bathed in blood. This is why Lunar Eclipses are nicknamed “Blood Moons.” Fortunately, they aren’t nearly as dire as the name suggests.
How Long Do We Feel Eclipses?
Eclipses generally impact us for two weeks on either side of the event. However, they can often be the catalyst/seed for an impact we see up to six months later.
Now, let’s get into it.

The Lunar Eclipse in Pisces: Revisiting the Past
This Lunar Eclipse sits in Pisces, the sign of longing for the past, of tuning into our intuition, and listening to what our soul really wants. Conjunct the North Node point of destiny, it’s trying to lead us where we need to go next and ushering in the future. However, the counter part to the Moon is the Sun (as for full moons, the Sun and Moon are in opposition). The Sun sits in Virgo with Mercury and the South Node, showing us what we need to release: old ways of thinking, old ways of doing things, and rigid self-expectations and ways of interacting with life.
This eclipse works through us internally more than externally (though we’ll see external changes too, in many cases).
In order to facilitate the process, make this eclipse as easeful as possible, and help you re-align with your soul, I’ve broken down the three biggest themes and created individualized journal prompts for each sign. Let’s jump in.

Releasing Old Ways of Thinking
With the Sun in Virgo, conjunct Mercury and the South Node, a major part of this eclipse is to revisit old thought patterns and opinions. As human beings, we often fall in the trap of believing what we’re taught is true, even if the world around us shows how wrong we are. At this time, it’s important to listen to the quiet voice of your soul. To tune into your intuition to find the answers. To release mental frames that weren’t reality, and allow something new to come in.
On this eclipse, it’s a good idea to do some journalling to facilitate this process. Depending on where this eclipse happens for you, ask yourself about:
Area of Interest for Sun, Moon, and Rising:
Aries: necessary endings, spirituality, karma.
Taurus: future plans, social life, friendships.
Gemini: public life, career, authority.
Cancer: belief systems (including religion), teaching, faith.
Leo: truth, intimacy, shared resources.
Virgo: 1-on-1 relationships, commitment, love.
Libra: health, work/service, routines.
Scorpio: the heart, children, creativity.
Sagittarius: family, home, private life.
Capricorn: communication, siblings, learning.
Aquarius: your values, self-worth, finances.
Pisces: new beginnings, identity, life path.
Then, answer the following journal prompts.
Journal Prompts:
What do you truly think about this area of your life right now?
What beliefs do you have around this area of life that hold you back (and why do they hold you back)?
What beliefs do you have around this area of life that serve you (and why do they serve you)?
Are these beliefs actually true? Why?
What are you afraid is true? What do you hope is true?
Tune into your intuition around this area of life. What comes up for you? Note any feelings, physically or emotionally. Write it down, even if you don’t understand.
How would you like to move forward in this area of life?
Now that we released some of the mental load we weren’t meant to carry, let’s try and see… what we really want.

“It Starts with Absence and Desire”
A major part of this eclipse is noticing what we don’t have – and long for. With the North Node in Pisces, all eclipses we’re having until mid-2026 have an element of mystery, or following a thread of feeling without knowing why. Of, as my teacher Virginia Rosenberg would say, sitting in the void.
When all is quiet, what does your soul whisper?
When all is quiet, what does your heart sing?
When all is quiet, what do you feel in the depth of your core?
Easy to avoid and hard to understand, this place of us, the place only accessible when the mind is void of stimuli and we stay in absence of distraction, is where we can find what truly matters.
Wisdom emerges here.
Our life path unfolds.
Body, mind, and soul realign.
We reconnect to truth.
And we find God (however we understand the term).
That is what the “absence” part of the above heading refers to – but what about desire?
When we truly touch into the core of who we are, we’ll find out what we truly desire. What we need is what we secretly long for when the conditioning of what we “should have” strips away. This place can be scary. This place can be elating. This place can hurt.
But this place is also our teacher, our training ground, the part that prepares us for having it (in ways we never knew we needed to be prepared.
Under this eclipse, let absence of all and the desire deep inside you be your teacher. Sit with it, befriend it. Try to learn from it, and with it. That is the road to positive change (and also, acceptance to where you are now, and patience for your journey).
Remember: what we long for, longs for us.
For journalling, consider this area of your life that the eclipse is particularly impacting:
Area of Interest for Sun, Moon, and Rising:
Aries: necessary endings, spirituality, karma.
Taurus: future plans, social life, friendships.
Gemini: public life, career, authority.
Cancer: belief systems (including religion), teaching, faith.
Leo: truth, intimacy, shared resources.
Virgo: 1-on-1 relationships, commitment, love.
Libra: health, work/service, routines.
Scorpio: the heart, children, creativity.
Sagittarius: family, home, private life.
Capricorn: communication, siblings, learning.
Aquarius: your values, self-worth, finances.
Pisces: new beginnings, identity, life path.
Then, answer the following journal prompts:
Journal prompt:
What do you want in this area of your life?
And secretly, what do you really want – that you’d tell no one, not even yourself?
When all is silent and you really slow down: what emerges in the depths of your heart?
Note: For some of you, the quote for this character “It starts with absence and desire” might seem particularly familiar. If you can tell where this quote comes from, write it in the comments!
Now that we’ve gained some clarity about what we actually desire – let’s find ways of making it work: through the wisdom of the past.

Hidden Pearls of Wisdom
As human beings, specifically in the Western part of civilization, we tend to want to move forward linearly, quickly, and efficiently. What’s done is done, what’s in the past is past (and probably outdated). Most of us don’t see a difference between a decade old smartphone being “old and useless,” and the habits, behaviors, and wisdom of older generations or even our past selves.
However, we’re doing ourselves and our world a disservice by refusing to think of what used to work in the past. I’m afraid I’ve forgotten who said this (as I found this quote on social media ages ago), but it’s too true to pass up: “Sometimes, traditions are the solutions that worked so well that we’ve forgotten the problems they solve.” Sometimes, generations past actually knew what they were doing. Yes, our world is different now, but human beings are still human. Rain still falls from the sky, and people still do stupid things. Looking into our past and seeing what works might positively impact our present – and future – and solve problems we don’t know how to overcome.
On a micro level: while you’re much smarter than your past self, you might have known something back then that worked – that you’ve forgotten, or stepped away from, now.
This eclipse asks us to circle back to the past to actively take the good parts and bring them into our present and future.
Consider this area of your life that the eclipse is particularly impacting:
How did generations past (maybe even in history!) handle this area of life? Pick the past that interests you/draws you the most, even if you don’t know why.
What worked for them?
How did you use to live into this area of life when you were young(er)?
What worked for you?
Is there anything in the above answers (a realization, a desire, an action plan) that you want to take with you moving forward?
Remember, we can always bash our past and the past as a whole – God knows, we have reason to. But nothing is fully black-and-white, and wisdom can be found in the oddest of places.

Endings
Last but not least (and without including journal prompts): Lunar eclipses always signify an ending or a culmination of some kind. Around this time, you might feel something coming to a close for you or physically leave/experience an ending in the area of life you’re affected by.
Things that end around eclipses are generally meant to have ended – either, to create a necessary pause so the players can come back into realignment through growth, after which another attempt can be made – or, an ending forever.
Endings around this time might be particularly grief-laden and hard on people’s psyches. But that doesn’t mean that the ending was wrong.
