An Eclipse to Change Many Lives: Partial Solar New Moon Eclipse in Virgo (September 21st, 2025)

On 09/21/2025, a Partial Solar Eclipse (New Moon Eclipse) takes place in Virgo. The last eclipse of 2025, it’s going to be a huge astrological event.

But before we jump in, as always, let’s clear up the terms! (If you’d like to skip – click here.)

What’s a Solar Eclipse?

Eclipses are what happens when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align in such a way in the sky that either the Sun’s or Moon’s light is significantly dimmed.

An eclipse happening on a New Moon is a Solar Eclipse – here, the Moon blocks out or dims the Sun’s light (at least we perceive it that way from Earth). Regardless of whether eclipses are partial or total, they’re still powerful forces in our lives. Depending on where we live in the world, we might not see a Solar eclipse happening. However, we can still feel the impact of this particular eclipse even if we can’t see it ourselves.

This is the final eclipse of 2024.

An Eclipse to Change Many Lives

The past eclipses on the Pisces and Virgo axis (September 18th, 2024, and March 14th, March 29th, and September 7th, 2025) all had an element of being reflective, tuning into the past, sifting through what we’ll take with us into the future, and listening to our intuition – and our very soul. There was a reason for that – and it’s kickstarted now.

The Larger Context

We live in a time that astrologers 100 years ago looked at and said: “Oh, the 2020s will be interesting!” (Aren’t you just so grateful about that one?)

Part of the reason why is that in short succession:

Pluto entered Aquarius (2023-24), an event that lasts 20 years and last happened in 1777, around the time of the American and French Revolutions.

Neptune entered Aries (2025-26), an event that lasts 14 years and last happened in 1861, around the time of the Gold Rush and American Civil War.

Uranus entered Gemini (2025-26), an event that lasts 8 years and last happened in 1941-49, around the mid to end of World War II and lasting to the beginning of the Cold War. (Article on history coming soon).

Now, you might wonder why I wrote “entered 2023-24 & 2025-2026” despite the facts that they obviously stay here for 20, 14, and 8 years respectively: the reason is that Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are the slowest planets in astrology, which means that every sign change is a long and laborious event that stretches for about a year.

Throughout the sign change, we’re in a liminal space, a time where we’re slowly closing out and processing the (sometimes decades-)long era of change that Uranus, bringer of innovation, Neptune, bringer of the soul, and Pluto, bringer of total transformation, initiated within us.

So, every single one of those sign changes is a big deal. And times where multiple sign changes happen like that are even bigger deals.

However, we aren’t done! Because Pluto and Uranus are changing signs almost in the same years, they are connected in a special way (called an aspect). The last time they were locked in like this in Gemini and Aquarius was 1415 A.D. So, this is rare.

But also, Neptune is joined by the planet Saturn while changing signs – this is a huge thing and very rare as it last happened in 555 A.D.

So, why are we talking about this? Because this eclipse simultaneously activates all those points… and plays catalysts for the themes those events talk about.

Life-Changing Events

Neptune and Saturn in Aries teach us about agency and our own place in our destiny. Connected to this eclipse via opposition, it’s time to get real with who you’re meant to be, and how you’d like to act. It’s key here to listen to your intuition and build on the information you’ve gained since March 2023, when Saturn entered Pisces.

Pluto in Aquarius unearths where we need to become more authentic to our individuality – and let it show where we’re different. Pluto and Uranus also both facilitate external changes in our lives, ones we make or that set us free.

Build On What You’ve Learned

We’re deep in the liminal space of closing out a chapter in our lives while starting a new one. What we’ve learned since 2012 has been swept to the forefront specifically around the dates of the past eclipses in Pisces and Virgo: September 18th, 2024, March 14th, 2025, March 29th, 2025, and September 7th, 2025 (add about 2 weeks on either side of each event for further context). What came up for you around that time? This will be your guideline of where you need to go, and what you need to remember for this event to come.

Make Space for a New Beginning

Solar eclipses are always times for new beginnings. Connect this to all three outer planets that all recently started a journey through a new sign, and you can multiply the energy of the new beginning by a thousand. While parts of this are up to you and your choices (this is a GREAT time to trigger a new beginning you want to have in your life!), you may not have complete control over this.

However, knowing and accepting that not everything is up to you, and intentionally rolling with the changes is a great attitude for making the best of this time.

Build Only What Lasts

Pluto and Uranus rattle the structures in your life to bring in new things and trigger great change (how could it be different with that rare of an event?). But the saving grace is Saturn playing for keeps in this eclipse. Saturn is the taskmaster, the one that prunes whatever we don’t need, or whatever would harm us in the long run, out of our lives. But it also brings us the stability and resiliency for what stands on a firm foundation and is meant to last a lifetime (and sometimes, longer).

Keep Calm and Stay Flexible

Easier said than done, but keeping a flexible schedule around this eclipse (as much as possible) is a good idea for the majority of people. Often, eclipses bring up unforeseen events (not necessarily negative ones, either!) that take up a lot of time. Keeping the schedule light(-ish) and keeping as calm as one can makes it easier to navigate what’s going to happen, and make the best of this event.
