The first eclipse of 2026 is upon us – and our first eclipse in a new sign. The Solar Eclipse in Aquarius isn’t just a new beginning, it’s the preview of a new theme of interconnected, destiny-led events that take place on and around each new eclipse all the way to mid-2028.

What are Eclipses?

Eclipses are times of change catalyzed. Whatever developments were already underway come to a head and are sped up beyond expectation or even imagination of what’s possible. Things that can’t continue like this anymore abruptly end, and new opportunities arise that lead us to where we need to go next on a soul-level: personally, and/or soul-led. These can be opportunities in the relational realm, new people entering our lives, moving, or job opportunities. Eclipses unfold over the time of +/- 2 weeks per date, with the days surrounding the date itself being the most intense. It also has ripple effects for the next 6 months – with this eclipse in particular with ripple effects for years to come (until 2028 at least).

What is a Solar Eclipse?

A Solar Eclipse is a new moon that happens close to one of two ever-moving points in the sky called the Lunar Nodes (consisting of the North Node and South Node). During these new moons, the Sun is hidden from Earth’s perspective because the moon is directly between it and our Earth. Astrologically, these are times of new beginnings. An Eclipse Like No Other: Context and Influences on this Eclipse

This eclipse is... very, very different from normal eclipses, so let me walk you through the context of why this one is special. And while this context is very deep, nuanced, and complex (since absolutely everything is coming to a head that's already going on) I assure you... it's key to understanding this event and the astrology of our time, so please don't skip this. Okay, now that this is covered: Let's jump in there.

The Nodes in Pisces and Virgo

While the Solar Eclipse is in Aquarius already, the “anchor points” of it, a.k.a. the Nodes, are still in Pisces and Virgo. This means that this eclipse ties us back to the events that happened since September 2024 and prepares us for a whole new chapter of our lives. It is a new beginning… but tinged by what already was.

Uranus in Taurus: Grounded Transformation, Liberation, and More

Square Uranus in Taurus (which is a challenge) and ruled by the planet as well, which isn’t exactly easy, this lunation has the potential to bring massive changes that go deep and impact our very foundations. This is an activation, a download for what the future brings, a systemic update (which may include the temporary experience of things not working right as your internal system has to remove the proverbial bugs), and an overall uprooting.

The good news is: change that needs to happen will happen. This is the event to get unstuck.

The bad news is: so many unexpected events (or an event that’s so intense and also unexpected) might take place that this is a good time to keep a light schedule and to support yourself with grounding agents and anything that slows down your nervous system.

Uranus has been in Taurus since 2018 and, while it’s been there, taught us about the body’s and nervous system’s interconnection with how we think, the ways our holistic health helps or hinders us in finding peace as we navigate change, and themes such as bodily autonomy, sustainability in all areas of our lives, and empowerment by taking charge of our own experience. Our foundations in the realm of money or even life itself underwent changes, and life as we knew it ended – periodically, at least. The challenging and dynamic aspect of this eclipse to Uranus will allow us to close out that story and whatever unfolded since 2018, while bringing a powerful change into the future that will support us for the next years to come… and might leave few stones in our lives unturned.

Pluto in Aquarius: Legendary Transformation

While this eclipse isn’t exactly conjunct Pluto, it’s still in the same sign as the current agent of transformation, going deep, and revealing hidden treasure (as well as all that is hidden, including taboo themes like power and darkness). This planet is currently moving through the sign of invention, humanitarian endeavors, ideologies and mental thought-constructs, change, and the dynamics of human groups. Pluto shows us what, where, and how we differ from each other and where that’s a good thing… or how we can make it so. It reveals a new vision for ourselves and humanity and shows all of us a whole new story of life that will unfold from 2023 until 2044.

… and this eclipse, and its following sister-eclipses 2026-2028, are a “hot phase” of this transit. Essentially, these eclipses catalyze the themes Pluto brings up. So, what are they? Pluto here isn’t the only large-scale theme this eclipse is dragging up from the depths.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Another primary influence on this Eclipse is actually the ruler of the North Node, Jupiter in Cancer. While this is its own event with its article linked above, the relevant theme of Jupiter in Cancer for this eclipse is our heart as the guide that allows us to fully perceive what’s to come and that guides our path. This is a time of love, when topics around our love for family, friends, ourselves, past people, and romantic love are massively highlighted and lead to highly catalyzed change and potent transformation. Our hearts are our guides, and our physical and emotional homes may be changed through this event – or become our foundation for better navigating this event.

Since Venus, the planet of love, is exactly conjunct the North Node (point of destiny and opportunity), the themes of love and relationships are extra amplified during this time. Plus, Mars in Aquarius as well (same sign as Pluto and the eclipse) brings an additional emphasis on desire and our capacity to take action as well as navigate conflict.

The Saturn-Neptune conjunction

The second ruler of the North Node and the second ruler of the eclipse (hey, if you’re confused at this point, I totally understand: this is a masterclass in astrological context within the scope of what's basically an essay at this point) are both conjunct in Aries.

And not only that, they're also tied back to all other players we’ve talked about already, creating a powder keg of transformation, change, opportunity, and emotional as well as external-world intensity. Saturn here at least brings some degree of grounding as desires become clearer, and we have some degree of self-discipline and self-awareness within the cocktail of intensity swirling around. That being said, this is a good time to not let your emotions run rampant with you, but to count to ten before replying to emotionally charged situations and conversations.

The Saturn-Neptune conjunction is all about making magic real and grounding miracles into the real world, especially in form of a new beginning.

So, one of the main influences on this eclipse is literally magic and miracles. So, this eclipse is intense, but it’s not necessarily negatively so. The long-term results, especially, are likely to last a lifetime as this Saturn-Neptune conjunction is so rare that we last had one like it in the 9th century A.D.

So, this event is going to bring us change and shake up our worlds a little, or a lot – especially, depending on what parts of your chart are triggered by this. It’s not your run-of-the-mill eclipse, but a big new beginning that catalyzes generational themes like the once-every-248-years event of Pluto in Aquarius, the once-every-84-years event like Uranus in Taurus (that’s also closing out), and a variation of the Saturn-Neptune conjunction that hasn’t happened like this in more than 1,000 years. Plus, it’s a new beginning that gives us a preview of life until 2028 included and brings a series of events that each radically change our personal lives and our worlds.
