Total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo: Dedication to Balance and Release (03/02-03/2026)

On March 2nd (or 3rd, depending on time zones) of the year 2026, we have another eclipse taking place: this one a final goodbye and a culmination, a harvesting of proverbial fruit and pruning of what we’ve grown so far so that renewal can take place. At 12° Virgo, it’s the final eclipse in that sign while the axis of eclipses resides in Virgo/Pisces... for the next 9 years to come.

The second eclipse of 2026 is a finale. While we’ll still have one more eclipse on the Pisces-Virgo axis in 2026 (on August 28th), this is the final eclipse with the anchor points of eclipses in those 2 signs.

So, what is a Lunar Eclipse?

If you already know this, skip here!

When a Full Moon should be visible in the sky, but is either hidden or discolored since the Earth’s shadow is falling right on top of it, it’s called a Lunar Eclipse (or Blood Moon, if you want to be dramatic about it). The only two places around which the Earth, Sun, and Moon can align for this to be possible are called the Lunar Nodes, or simply, the Nodes (and consist of the North and South Node mentioned above). “Total” in this context means that the Moon is almost completely hidden, making this event more potent.

Any eclipse unfolds over the time of +/- 2 weeks around the date itself, with the days surrounding the date being the most intense. It also has ripple effects for the next 6 months.

But in meaning, the Lunar Eclipse differs from the Solar Eclipse in nature as it’s all about reaping what we sowed, endings, graduations, culminations, celebrations, and release.

Metaphorically, this is the time when the seedling becomes a full-fledged tree laden with fruit, the time when the idea we hatched before is up and about in the world on its own two legs. Essentially, Lunar Eclipses show us what we’ve built so far and what results we gain from that – and allow us to react accordingly: release excess, course-correct and navigate unwanted consequences, enjoy and celebrate our winnings, and welcome results. Even under Lunar Eclipses that emphasize endings, new beginnings can and do abound – the energy is more on closing cycles than on opening new ones, though.

These are times of heightened emotion and frankly, stress, since Lunar Eclipses are more emotional in nature and tend to make us “blow up” quicker when unexpected events happen… which they can, often.

Eclipse seasons in general are times of heightened potential for change when developments already underway are catalyzed and sped up, and new events unfold that are, at times, wholly surprising. So, this is a time to prioritize appropriate self-care and rest, to keep a light schedule where possible, and to count to ten before blowing up in someone’s face.

What are the Nodes?

The axis of eclipses, also called the Lunar Nodes or the Nodes for short, consists of the anchor points of eclipses. The North Node, currently in Pisces, shows what we’re growing towards and activating in ourselves and our personal blueprint of soul-purpose and destiny that differs from person to person. The South Node, currently in Virgo, shows what we’re building on, benefitting from, and also releasing or “pruning” as we move forward in our life – it also signifies our past. Together, these two points are the “umbrella topics” for a series of eclipses that started in September of 2024. This means that the eclipses of February and March 2026 (this one) both tie back to these topics… and several other events we’ve had so far in:

September 2024 (Lunar Eclipse in Pisces)

February 2026 (Solar Eclipse in Aquarius).

You can read about the umbrella topics of Pisces and Virgo here in this separate article.

Influences on this Eclipse

Mercury Retrograde in Pisces

While this eclipse is going on, Mercury – ruler of communication and primary influence on this eclipse– sits in retrograde in the sign of Pisces and hinders our capacity for straightforward communication and logistical planning both by sign (as Pisces is very intuitive and non-linear) and by the fact that it’s in retrograde (focused on the past, creating clarity through a lengthy process of reexamination rather than straight-forward spewing out of facts.) Long story short, make sure you check real quick if the thing that makes you lose your marbles was in your head or not, and whether it’s an easily resolved miscommunication or something to actually flip your switch about: you’ll save yourself a lot of drama if you do your homework before acting. Mercury Retrograde goes on from February 26th to March 20th, 2026, and has its own article here.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Another primary influence on this Eclipse is actually the ruler of the North Node, Jupiter in Cancer. While this is its own event with its article linked above, the relevant theme of Jupiter in Cancer for this eclipse is our heart as the guide that allows us to fully perceive what’s to come and that guides our path. This is a time of love, when topics around our love for family, friends, ourselves, past people, and romantic love are massively highlighted and lead to highly catalyzed change and potent transformation. Our hearts are our guides, and our physical and emotional homes may be changed through this event – or become our foundation for better navigating this event.

Lunar Eclipse in Virgo

After the intensity of the last eclipses in Pisces and Virgo in September 2025, each, this event feels a lot less intense and a lot more grounding and soothing. But this is a time of gentle release, so a new beginning is heralded by Neptune in Aries and the upcoming themes of the Nodes in Aquarius and Leo, as foreshadowed by the February Solar Eclipse of 2026. That being said, this event feels gentle, wise, kind.

Eclipses in Virgo are generally times of reconsideration and fine-tuning as we get the last things we procrastinated about (or simply couldn’t get to due to time constraints, logistics, etc.) done and tie up loose ends. These are times when we naturally feel devoted toward a spiritual purpose as well as worldly tasks, times when we “chop wood and carry water,” no matter how “enlightened” we think we are. These are times of a quiet, gentle humility and building skills we need to get ahead in life, as well as times of insight and personal growth. Around this eclipse, our energy may feel slower with 3 out of 3 personal planets in Pisces, including Mars, our planet of energy.

But what this also means is that this is a time for intuition-led and soul-directed action in which “busyness for busyness’s sake” becomes de-emphasized.

This is also, quite simply, a time for giving ourselves the rest and relaxation we need in a world that demands our constant attention, effort, and productivity at all times. This Virgo eclipse shows us what we need to become or stay healthy, and provides the map for our future wellbeing if we slow down enough to listen.

Preventative health measures (and medical endeavors in general) are more auspicious around this eclipse, and many will look at their mental and physical health in more holistic ways. Astrology is no substitute for medical advice.

This is also a time to reconsider the work you’re doing in the world, where you’re of service (and for whom). Events on the Virgo-Pisces axis such as this one can reveal where we need to help others more, but also where we’re helping people in ways that are a very time- and energy-consuming band-aid that merely hides the problem the other person needs to manage… and that they can’t be saved from, even if you’re trying to do so. Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he eats for the rest of his life. This is a time to give the man a couple of fish so he’s set for the time it takes him to learn how to do it himself, and then teach him while he’s set.

This event is also, in large parts, about our routines and habits – and the ways they serve us (or not). This event is a time to prioritize rest even if you don’t sleep well (which many people struggle with in eclipse season, so you’re not alone if this is you) and to eat appropriately: a.k.a., to eat enough so you have energy, and to eat healthily if you can according to your body’s needs, not someone else’s ideas of what you should need (though actual toxins should probably not be your idea of health).

This is also an eclipse that reveals and gives us the opportunity to grow in acceptance around what it is we simply can not do in our lives: because we lack the time, because we lack the ability, because our priorities are elsewhere, because it just can’t be. As human beings, we may be able to become everything we desire… but we have to pick within the limits of the time we have on earth, so we can’t be Barbie and have 1000+ jobs all at once. This eclipse brings the release of our expectations that we can’t meet anyway (though they’re first revealed). And especially for those of us whose dreams aren’t achievable because we don’t have the ability to make them come true despite all efforts… Don’t do what you can’t do, only do what you can do. It’s simple advice… and yet, in these times, so hard to do for some of us because it requires us to acknowledge and accept our own limitations, even if they’re fully human.

Work-life-balance is a massive theme around this eclipse as well: is the work you’re doing in the world and the way you’re doing it serving your present-day and future health? Are you having a life and a holistic balance between your job and other parts of your life? Is what you’re getting out of the job worth what you’re pouring into it? This is a time for reconsidering all of that and for finding ways to fine-tune your life so you can adjust and keep healthy (and well) long-term.

But work-life balance doesn’t just affect your job: what you spend your time doing all day? Are the chores you do time suckers that take up more than they need to, or more than you have? Are the standards you set for yourself and the workload you give yourself even manageable once you get off work – for humanity in general, and for you in this moment in time specifically? Often, it’s not just our jobs that drain us (though they absolutely can be), but the duties we chose or were forced into outside our 9-5 as well. In the Sign Predictions and Advice

This is still a generalized section, as each person’s birth chart contains many modifying effects that show how an eclipse will play out specifically. However, this is still a good start for guidance. Consider booking a reading if you’re like to learn more individualized information.

All interpretations are written for Sun and Rising Signs (ASC).

Aries:

This event brings insight and culmination into your realm of work, pets, service, and health. It’s time to devote yourself to your own needs and, from that place, to serve the people you love the most. This is also a great time to streamline productivity and take care of what you don’t like to do, but need to get done. Rest and release unnecessary pressure – delegate what you need to. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Taurus:

This event brings insight into your realm of fun, hobbies, joy, children, and your romantic life. It also allows for a release of past (ideas about) love and closes out a chapter that someone else in your life went through with children/your children, or loved ones in general. This is a highly fertile and creative time for you. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Gemini:

This event draws you into the realm of the home but also shows you how your home can (or right now, needs to be changed so that it can) become the foundation for success in your public/work-related life. Your family may be a big theme right now (biological or found), as can be your roots and private life in general. Make time to be at rest in private. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Cancer:

This event fires up your mind and allows you to say what you want to say (or communicate in some other way, such as writing). Your perception and mindset may be challenged, and you may find a culmination in a learning journey of some kind. Neighborhood, local life, travel, and siblings (if applicable) may become a theme right now. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Leo:

This event impacts your finances, self-confidence, self-esteem, and values. This might be a time of culminations and rewards coming your way (by which I don’t mean that it’s the last time that happens, so don’t worry), and a time when your values might particularly bear fruit: stay true to yourself. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Virgo:

This event impacts your view of who you are and your life in general, with new beginnings being possible and a new chapter in your life unfolding, even as something ends. You are in charge now, and your dreams and destiny are highly important at this time. Don’t let others run the show, even if relationships are a secondary theme of this transit for you. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Libra:

This event is a time to slow down and release whatever lies in the past and still needs to be let go of. Past false beliefs are flushed out, situations you were stuck in might move again, and necessary endings take place. Your spiritual life is more important than ever, and the theme of surrender is highlighted. But surrender doesn’t mean to do nothing: make sure you’re actively letting go, rather than staying paralyzed while pretending to release what needs to fall away. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Scorpio:

This event impacts your hopes, dreams, and plans for the future, allowing for culminations and renewed steps for bringing plans to fruition and making dreams come true. A secondary focus is also your friend groups and society at large: the people you’re surrounded by might need you more, and friends reveal their true colors… and have their own journeys at this time. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Sagittarius:

This event highlights your career, reputation, work, and public life. It’s time to focus on that work-life balance and your overall reason why you do what it is you do. Status, success, and authority may also become big themes, and the bosses/authority figures over you may have their own journeys at this time. This is also a time for being out and about and getting stuff done. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Capricorn:

This event impacts your belief systems and the way you live and teach the truth you believe in, as well as the things you believe in generally. This is a time to be more gentle and allow for more discourse with others, even as you stay devoted to your own beliefs and live them authentically and with integrity. Themes around in-laws, travel, strangers, and religion may come to you as well. An adventure or learning journey in the widest sense of the world may take place as well. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Aquarius:

This event fires up your intuition and allows you to release pains from the past, especially those regarding secrets, truths, and events with other people that impacted you in intense ways. Transformation may occur, and you may feel revitalized (after the event is over, at least). Shared resources, intimacy, and the taboo realms of life (such as birth and death) may also be highlighted at this time. If this article helped you, please consider supporting my work directly here - thank you!

Pisces:

This event highlights your committed relationships: both those built on love, like marriage, romance, and best friends, and those built on contractual obligations, such as business partners. The people in your life may have their own journeys that impact you, and you might have new events within the relational realms.
